| Food
Sources: This is called "sunshine vitamin" because sunlight acting on the oils of the skin can produce it. Fish liver oils (especially cod liver oil) is an important source for this vitamin. Other foods that contain Vitamin D are: Eggs, Milk, Butter, Tuna, Salmon, Cereals, and Baked Goods using fortified flour |
| Effect
of Overdose: Overdoses of Vitamin D can be toxic, beginning with general depression and diarrhea, and then leading to abnormal calcium deposits in the soft tissues, the blood vessel walls, liver, lungs, kidney, and stomach. Sunstroke may also be related to the excessive intake of Vitamin D.
Most medical books suggest that harm can result only if the dosage exceed 100,000 to 150,000 IU daily for many months. |
