Christmas
& New Year Message 2001
By Very Rev. Thomas Mundukuzhy Corespicopa
Indian Orthodox Church
My Christmas and New Year message can be summed up in four words:
EXPAND YOUR SPIRITUAL HORIZON
Horizon is the meeting place of the earth with the sky. It is the symbol of infinite freedom and new space.
-
We face with so many challenges in our day to day life, especially after 9/11. The events of the September 11th seem to have changed the way we live and the way we now look for the future. They force us all to re-examine our most basic assumptions about what is important, not only in our personal lives, but in our society as a whole. The depth and breadth of our responses shall revitalize our sense of community
that we all belong one to another. When we have emergencies, we call 911 for help. The recent 9/11 terrorism incident demands us to call for help. The several polls taken after this show that more people attend worship services in churches, temples, and mosques.
-
The tremendous scientific and technological progress with sweeping changes we see these days shall awaken us from slumber. The change we need in us is that of spiritual, giving more importance to values and lives.
-
Be positive, not negative: Do not curse darkness, command light. In the beginning, the earth was without form and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. Then our Almighty God commanded for light and
there was light. And God saw the light and it was good. And God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness Night. Prophet Isaiah says that the people in the darkness saw a big
light... Those who are in the darkness shall see this light. I am the LIGHT of the world, Jesus declared. Here there is no caste, color, creed, denomination, gender, or age. The heavens declare the glory of
God. Shall we look, see, and experience this glory of God in our dark days?
-
Giving is the spirit of this season. We spent lots of money these days for giving. God spent His only begotten Son for our own sake. Shall we extend our helping hands to those have
nots?
Let us expand our spiritual horizon in words, deeds, and actions.
May you have the spirit of Christmas which is PEACE;
The gladness of Christmas which is LOVE;
The gift of Christmas which is CHRIST;
Now, always, and for ever and ever, Amen.
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR.
