Everything is Possible with God
By Mrs. Cicily Sunny M. A., B. Ed., MSE, New York, USA
"If the Lord does not build the house, the work of the builders is
useless" (Psalms 127:1). This does not refer to a material house only but to all the various efforts we make in our life. It is common that people who put the same efforts do not achieve success in the same degree in the various aspects of our life. Often we question this reality thinking that God is not just to everybody. Frustration preoccupies us and things go beyond our control when we try to be our own masters. There is a way for everything when God is put in the control room of everything and we do the best we can from our part. "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Nothing is too difficult for
me" (Jeremiah 32:27). This fills us with the divine characteristics of love, peace and joy.
All the riches in the world are of no use if we do not have the divine characteristics of love, peace and joy. It is only through love somebody can take pity on the poor and help them. This charitable act can lead to peace and joy. There are many poor people who enjoy these divine characteristics, which the rich cannot enjoy easily. The reason is that the poor trust in God's plan and put complete faith in achieving eternal bliss after death. The well being of their physical frame is of less importance to them compared to their spiritual well being. If they get jealous at the rich and commit suicide out of frustration, which means God was not asked to take control of their lives. There are poor in this world because there are rich, and the rich have to be aware of their big obligation. "It is much harder for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God than for camel to go through the eye of a
needle" (Luke 18:27). It is always healthy to relate ourselves to the poor and the downtrodden. The rich look at them as that is the way they are supposed to be; they forget all the sufferings and pains involved in being poor; they consider it as a punishment for their sins or their forefathers' sins; they look at their condition as the reward for their laziness. The poor are created in God's plan and we do not have to judge them. "God chose the poor people of this world to be rich in faith and to possess the kingdom which he promised to those who love
him" (St. James 2:5).
God should be given the first priority in our life, and before we attempt anything we should consult with Him to see if it is His will. Without Him everything we attempt in out life can end up in failure. "Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other
things" (St. Matthew 6:33). Using any means to accumulate wealth and achieve fame is against the will of God. Too much love of materialism is not in the plan of God. God does not reside where there is greed and jealousy. The promises of the world are attractive and thrilling, but short-lived. The promises of God are seemingly slow and less attractive, but definite and long lasting. Those who depend on the promises of this world are very unfortunate. "If our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more, then we deserve more pity than anyone else in all the
world" (1 Corinthians 15:19). For somebody who is not aware of this plan of God, He will give them awareness by making them go through hard situations in life one after another like the punishments given to the Pharaoh of Egypt before setting Moses and his people free. So when we go through unpleasant situations too often, we should check on ourselves to see if we are wrong somewhere or we are answering the call of God.
Once we make the necessary corrections in our life, things will go smoothly giving us love, peace and joy. Also, blessings will pour into our life too. Often we hear people complaining that even if they do hard work, they cannot succeed in their life and that hard times follow them wherever they go and whatever they do. Also, they take jealousy on people who do less hard work and enjoy more blessings in their life. This experience should be an eye-opener for them. This is God's way of dealing with people. "O Lord, you are faithful to those who are faithful to you; completely good to those who are perfect. You are pure to those who are pure, but hostile to those who are
wicked" (Psalms 18:25,26). If more blessings are showered on them, they will forget God completely. If it does not open their eyes, there is a chance of rejecting God. The more they reject God, the more will be their hard times too. God is looking towards our soul with jealousy. "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns
jealousy" (St. James 4:5).
It is very important to distinguish between true blessing and worldly achievements. Short-lived worldly achievements without God are common among people. True blessings come when things are done according to the will of God. Blessed families do not have to be poor all the time. We can see several families in which spiritual richness and worldly richness go hand in hand. Sometimes God let's those who love Him suffer a lot to help Him bear His cross. Those who are too close to God consider it as the best blessing. Sometimes a very worldly person gets closer to God through his sufferings. In this situation, God makes him an instrument of His love through sufferings. The lives of many saints are examples of this situation.
Irrespective of a person's conditions and situations, it is possible for him or her to have love, peace and joy depending on how close he or she is to God. Many innocent people who had to go through physical ailments for long time dedicated their lives to God and rejoiced at their conditions because they considered it as a blessing to walk with Jesus carrying His cross. This happiness is not possible to someone who cannot accept it as the will of God. A healthy, wealthy and beautiful person has to thank and praise God for those gifts and has to use those gifts to serve God in the best possible way. "Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from
God" (St. James 1:17). Instead, we see people taking credit for themselves and ridiculing those who do not have those gifts. Also, there are people who are not very gifted and talented who thank God fir whatever they have and dedicate their lives to serve God in all possible ways. The more they please God, the more love, peace and joy they experience. The use of education is not only to obtain a good job and enjoy own life but also to give out to our fellow beings the fruits of our education in whatever way it can be.
Life in this world is the narrow brink of the vast ocean of eternal life. We have to believe strongly that God is alive in the midst of us. It is wise to do everything possible to please God rather than running after this materialistic world which can promise nothing to save our soul. It is through tragedies that I got closer to God. When I experienced the joy of being closer to God, I thanked God million times for giving me the tragedies that led me to the truth. Just my being a Christian, going to church, and praying for our needs, we cannot enjoy the divine characteristics of love, peace and joy. We need to surrender to the will of God completely like clay in the hand of a potter. Most of the times, God does not change our conditions, but He enables us to change our mentality to adjust to the present conditions so that we can praise and thank Him at all conditions. The purpose of this article is to cheer up anybody who is suffering at heart, to warn those who take credit for their abilities, and to make the whole world understand the secret of enjoying love, peace and joy in union with God.
