Hot Spiced Holiday Drink

A very popular drink during Kwanzaa.

Ingredients
4 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons whole allspice
1 teaspoon whole cloves
2 cups water
2 cups granulated sugar
2 quarts orange juice
2 quarts pineapple juice
Dark rum or brandy, to taste

Directions

Tie the cinnamon, allspice, and cloves together in a piece of rinsed, squeezed-dry cheesecloth. In a small saucepan, bring the water, sugar, and spices to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.

In a 12-cup or larger electric percolator, combine the sugar syrup, spice bag, and orange and pineapple juices. Perk until the machine indicates that the drink is hot. Remove the spice bag. (You can also add the ingredients in the saucepan if you do not have a coffee maker.)

Serve with a bottle of dark rum or brandy to taste (Approximately about 2 tablespoons per serving.)

Yield: about 2.5 quarts, 10 servings
