This human form of life is not meant for simply amassing money,
power, and prestige. We are meant to achieve to the ultimate
platform of self-realization, Krishna consciousness, and thus
completely transcend the repeated miseries experienced in the
cycle of birth and death.
Often people wonder how they will be
able to adopt the necessary disciplines to advance properly in
spiritual life. They feel that it is something impossible, beyond their
reach. They do not understand how they could possibly squeeze
something else into their already stressed out existence. What
they don't realized is that it is simply a matter of proper realization,
of proper understanding.
Once you understand what is actually
going on beneath the thin veneer of the material energy you will
naturally focus your life's energies for achieving the ultimate goal.
In this connection the following profound advice was given
thousands of years ago by the great king of India, Rsabhadeva to
his sons:
rsabha uvaca
nayam deho deha-bhajam nrloke
kastan kaman arhate vid-bhujam ye
tapo divyam putraka yena sattvam
suddhyed yasmad brahma-saukhyam tv anantam
"Lord Rsabhadeva told His sons: My dear boys, of all the living
entities who have accepted material bodies in this world, one who
has been awarded this human form should not work hard day and
night simply for sense gratification, which is available even for dogs
and hogs that eat stool. One should engage in penance and
austerity to attain the divine position of devotional service. By such
activity, one's heart is purified, and when one attains this position,
he attains eternal, blissful life, which is transcendental to material
happiness and which continues forever."
