Most people associate mantras with Hinduism; but they are an important part of daily religious practice in other religions as well. A celebrated Buddhist mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum ("Hail to the jewel in the lotus"), is repeated countless times each day by millions of Buddhists; in addition, it flutters on prayer flags, revolves within prayer wheels, and is carved on walls and floors throughout Tibet and northern India. According to one Buddhist text, this mantra is "the essence of all happiness, prosperity and knowledge and the source of the great liberation." Please refer to Prayer of Jesus and Dhikr for similar applications in Christianity and Islam. [Selected Prayers] [Prayer Home] [Holistic Living Home] [HolisticonLine Home]
